HAL GOMER GALLERY AND GALLERY 194
Chesapeake Arts Center has two professional gallery spaces — the Hal Gomer Gallery and Gallery 194 — as well as display spaces in hallways and in the Hammonds Lane Theater lobby. Renovated in 2015, Chesapeake Arts Center renamed its gallery closest to the main entrance after the beloved late artist and former Brooklyn Park High School art teacher, Thomas Hal Gomer. The gallery has two adjoining sections, room 1 is 374 square feet and the 2nd room is 363 square feet.
Located adjacent to the Hal Gomer Gallery is Gallery 194 (working name) which was constructed in Spring 2022 when CAC office space was renovated into a new 800 square foot gallery. Funds to create this gallery were provided by the Maryland Heritage Area Authority.

Chesapeake Arts Center presents Unearthen, a collection of work by artists Colleen Harkins and Lexi Arrietta. Navigating the push and pull between physicality and ephemerality, this exhibition reminds us how much power and beauty can be found in that which is strictly temporary.
Colleen Harkins : Colleen Harkins is a painter based in Pennsylvania. They received their BFA from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and their MFA from the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art. Their work is invested in sensation, materiality, and the ways in which color, light, and form can transcend language. Their paintings often allude to landscape and organic forms, exploring the connections between mind, body, and earth.

Lexi Arrietta : Lexi Arrietta grew up among the fields, woods, and waterways of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They hold a BA from Sarah Lawrence College, where they studied art with Rico Gatson and Dawn Clements, and where they were awarded the Lori Hertzberg Prize for Creativity. Arrietta has had her work exhibited at Van Der Plas Gallery in NYC, and was chosen as a Director's Choice Winner for Viridian Artists' 31st Annual International Juried Exhibition. The artist is currently building a new body of work for a solo show at Chesapeake Arts Center (forthcoming Summer 2023). She lives and works alongside her partner of many years and their two wild dogs.

Gallery 194

RECEPTION - Thursday, June 16, 2022 | 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Ricky Chenoweth, or RC as he is known online and on social media, is an artist with a very broad skillset. He works in a variety of mediums from painting and drawing to digital editing, balancing elements of pop culture with his own neo-surrealist style to create unique visual juxtapositions. Eight years ago Ricky got his start as a young artist with a solo exhibition at Chesapeake Arts Center, and his work and local reputation have both taken off since then. He has been the recipient of multiple awards and his work has been featured in a variety of publications both online and in print. We at CAC are very excited to welcome him back for another solo show during our ongoing 20th-anniversary celebration—both as a talented artist and as an important piece of our community and history as an organization.
