Capturing the Wonder of Imagination Through the Eyes of Mother and Daughter
Combining the magic of motherhood and childhood, Robin and Eliza Culkin are proud to present “A Mother’s World and a Daughter’s World” at the Chesapeake Art Center. The translation of life to imagination, and vice versa, creates a wonder of fantasy that evolves through life.
As a child, unbounded imagination of what could be in the universe creates a feeling of awe. Eliza’s wondrous characters, their light, their motivations, their power, and their flaws are depicted in an auroral splash of color and light created in digital art.
For a mother, that same feeling of awe is induced by the quirkiness of happiness felt by those in her life, bound by reality yet still unbounded in possibility. Robin’s whimsical portrayals of the vibrant personalities of life are captured in beautiful detail in oil on canvas.
Eliza Culkin
Eliza Culkin provides a glimpse into the eyes of a young teenager with a wondrous imagination!
A 9th grader at South Carroll High School, Eliza has been a natural talent in the arts since a very young age. Her savant-like capabilities in the capture and portrayal of shapes, colors, shadows, and illuminations have been apparent throughout her school years, and stunned parents and teachers alike. At the age of 13, Eliza joined her mother, Robin, in creating artistic products that are included in the product lines of Robin Culkin Art Studios. She has been contracted to create multiple commission works from collectors across the country, and won “Best of Show” in the 18 and under art competition in the 2019 Havre de Gras Art Show in Maryland.
Eliza is striving to one day become an animator. She is thrilled to present a collection of her characters for the Chesapeake Art Center at the “A Mother’s World and a Daughter’s World” show.
Robin Culkin
Robin Culkin shows her love of children’s books, motherhood, and whimsy in everything she creates.
A lifelong artist, Robin is a 1995 graduate of the PAIER College of Art in Hamden, CT. Following college, the realities of life entailed moving away from her dreams of being an artist, and she launched a career in retail management, and subsequently “retired” to become a stay-at-home mom to her four amazing children. When her oldest graduated from high school, Robin decided it was time to get back to her original aspirations. In 2018, she established Robin Culkin Art Studios, LLC and is loving it!
Robin’s joy in bringing her art alive shines through in every piece, revealing her experiences, her passions, and her expertise. Every painting has a story that is derived from an event, a character, an experience in her life. The joys of motherhood are fraught with comical stories, from the adorable deviousness of a toddler to the laughable clumsiness of a teenager. Robin captures the personality of every character in her paintings, and there’s no choice but to smile when you connect with the character portrayed.
Robin is thrilled to share the spotlight with her daughter Eliza at the Chesapeake Art Center. Eliza’s talent is just overwhelming, and Mom couldn’t be prouder!
