Free Family Art Workshop with Guest Artist Jainson Cedillo

Location: Chesapeake Arts Center – Blue Room & Galleries
Free Admission | All Materials Provided | Registration Required
Join us for a fun and inspiring afternoon of creativity at our Free Family Art Workshop, led by guest artist Jainson Cedillo. This hands-on experience is designed for families and individuals of all ages—no prior art experience needed!
Participants will learn how to draw a self-portrait using the gridding method, a simple and effective technique for creating accurate line drawings from photographs. Once the portraits are sketched, artists will explore their creativity by designing vibrant backgrounds that reflect their personal interests, culture, or family stories using a variety of art materials, including colored pencils, watercolor, markers, and collage.
Bring a printed photo of yourself or a loved one to use as a reference. Prefer to draw from life? We’ll have mirrors available as well.
The workshop will begin with a short talk by Jainson, who will share a selection of portrait work from both celebrated artists and his own collection. The afternoon will conclude with a gallery walk to celebrate each participant’s finished piece, and guests are invited to view Jainson’s artwork currently on display in the Patricia Barland Gallery as part of the "Love In Every Shade" exhibit (on view through July 31st).
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn new skills, connect through art, and celebrate creativity as a community!
